We were given the ideal opportunity to host a group of children from our local community at SA Kinderhuis in Gardens, Cape Town.

As we were in the process of renovating our practice at the time, we gave one of our dental nurses, Yvonne de Vries, free reign to paint our floors. She decorated all our passage floors and painted a beautiful mural of Nelson Mandela in the reception area.

The children were then given paint brushes so that they could add to her art work and make art works of their own.  Dr Howard Gluckman aka Spiderman supervised the painting and at the same time, educated the children on “good and bad” food choices for their teeth.

The rest of our team dressed up as Superheroes and Fairies and were involved in dental examinations to assess the children’s need for treatment. The oral hygienists, Elna van der Ham and Paula Williams had lot of laughs with the children when they dyed all the plaque on their teeth pink (disclosing) and then instructed them on correct tooth brushing techniques.

The children had a great time and we think they have changed their perception of visiting the dentist. Our team also thoroughly enjoyed the day and we got to know the children, especially those who continued to attend our practice for ongoing dental treatment.
